Leather and Care Tips

We believe in using only the most premium leather to craft your BTB pieces. Not only does luxury leather ensure longevity, the natural ageing process of a superior hide allows its true beauty to unfold as it softens with use.

Which leather should I choose?

Many of our styles use grainy leather, making them ideal for regular use. Grainy finishes wear extremely well, softening with age and use, but being more resistant to obvious marks than a smooth or patent finish might be.

Our smooth leather is ultra luxe, selected with the most discerning minimalist in mind. If this is your preferred finish, we recommend using your bag or accessory less often to avoid scuffs and marks which may occur with regular use. This is natural with normal wear, rather than being a fault in the leather.

If you choose a patent finish, we recommend wiping it down regularly with a soft cloth to remove fingerprints. Whilst the leather is still of a high quality, the shiny finish means that these pieces are best kept for occasions, as they can be more prone to showing up wear and tear.

Suede is one of our favourite finishes, though it does require a little extra care. You can purchase our scraper or similar, which we recommend you use on your bag regularly to ensure it stays clean and mark-free. We advise that these pieces are best kept for occasions where your bag is unlikely to become marked or experience much damage; best not to use this every day.

How should I store my bespoke leather creations?

To increase the lifespan of your leather, there are several steps we recommend taking. Preserve your leather by storing it in its original dust bag in a cool, dry place. Keep away from light and heat to ensure you protect your piece from fading and softening before its time.

If you are using any cleaning products on your leather, ensure you conduct a patch test first on an inconspicuous part of your gear. If you find any discolouration occurs, wipe the surface clean and discontinue use.

What about the hardware?

One of the simplest ways to maintain the lustre of your hardware is to ensure it isn’t unnecessarily exposed to water, perfume, hair products, body lotion etc. With time, you may find that the colour or finish fades; if this occurs with normal use within the first 12 months, you may be able to receive replacement hardware pieces depending on availability.

When you’re cleaning the leather parts of your gear, try to avoid getting any product onto the hardware.
Unfortunately, scratches may occur, especially when placing your bag on a rough surface. To increase the longevity, we suggest being mindful of where you place it; but always remember, BTB leather products are made to be used and loved!

Do I need leather conditioner?

Just like human skin, leather needs to be moisturised regularly to prevent flaking and wrinkling which may be caused by dehydration. Apply leather conditioner to a soft cloth and gently rub over. This will ensure the gear not only looks fresh, but ages well.
We recommend using leather conditioner every 4-6 weeks.
